Chris Nelson
Chris Nelson, formerly of the PA band, Fishkill, is pioneering his own blend of rock, folk and blues these days as a solo artist. He refers to his creation as “dark folk.” The sound is something unique yet oddly familiar. He records his songs with full instrumentation, but his shows are just him with an acoustic guitar.
Chris was inspired to organize the Sound Off For Vets Concert to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project when he attended the memorial service for a fallen serviceman he had never met. He had been given a work assignment to photograph the service for First Lt. Jeffrey DiPrimo from Pittston PA who was killed in Afghanistan by an IED. Chris learned through speaking with a friend of Lt DiPrimo that he and the deceased soldier shared a common bond through music. Lt. DiPrimo was a multi-intrumentalist who had produced, performed and recorded jazz . A 21 year veteran of the US Air Force, Chris says, “I don’t even know this person, but I have felt ever since that I’m finishing his sentence by doing this. I don’t think I would be as motivated toward something like this if I hadn’t been there.”
On May 21, 2011 the Second Annual Sound Off for Vets concert was held, once again organized by Chris Nelson.
